Hi, I'm Clint. I'm a corporate executive leading a large software development team against tight deadlines. I'm married, raising two young kids, and I'm sure just like you, I'm trying to juggle a ton of conflicting priorities for my time and energy.
For much of my adult life, I dealt with constant stress, with negative self-talk, defensive behavior, and emotional reactivity. Meditation became the tool that helped me manage an overactive nervous system, think more clearly, and respond to life instead of constantly reacting to it. Along the way, I lost more than 90 lb. I became an active runner, and I became a certified meditation teacher.
Now, when I talk about meditation, I'm not talking about escaping real life. I'm talking about finding a way to feel stable inside of it.
Maybe you're like I was. Does your mind ever feel like it's always somewhere else, replaying conversations, regretting things from the past, or worrying about the future? Are you pulled from one push notification or breaking news headline to the next, until you find yourself defensive, impatient, or emotionally reactive? I know that feeling, and I know meditation can help.
Maybe you've already tried meditation apps or YouTube videos, and that's how I started, too. But what finally changed my life wasn't another phone app tying me to my phone or another video. What I really needed was a meditation practice that I could actually sustain, regardless of where I was or how much time I had, or what else was going on, or even if my phone was fully charged.
That's what happened when I worked with a teacher who taught me how to become my own guide. And that's why I started Deep Mental Rest to help busy people build a meditation practice that actually fits real life, not an idealized version of it. I know how difficult it can be to build a long-term practice because I live it.
